Centre to set up mini airport in Karimganj, says CM

Nilambazar: The Centre is going to set up a permanent mini airport in Karimganj, said Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal while addressing a BJP workers’ meet here at the Karimganj District Library today.
Saying that the Centre as well as the State government is to develop Barak and Brahmaputra valleys at similar pace, Sonowal said the government has already directed the district administration to acquire land for starting the process of setting up of the mini airport.

The public demand for a medical college here is now consideration and a food park is being sanctioned by the government within a very short time, he said. Moreover, sanction for 200 kilometres of new National Highway in this district has already been cleared, he added.

Speaking on ‘Act East Policy’, a dream project of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he said it will not only benefit Karimganj district and its neighbouring districts, but also the States sharing the international border.
