Amphetamine seized from air passenger

Customs Air Intelligence Unit officials seized five kilograms of amphetamine, a psychotropic substance covered under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, that was being smuggled by a Malaysia-bound passenger at the international airport here in the late hours of Sunday.

R. Govindamoorthy (34) from Madurai arrived at the airport to board a Malindo Air flight to Kuala Lumpur. Sources said amphetamine, valued at Rs. 3 crore in international market, was found concealed in his stroller bag. Govindamoorthy visited Kuala Lumpur frequently, and he was a “carrier” of the psychotropic substance. Govindamoorthy was arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
