Full scale emergency exercise conducted at city airport

Amritsar: To test the emergency preparedness and effectiveness of the airport emergency plan, a full scale emergency exercise was conducted at the Amritsar airport here yesterday evening.
A bus was simulated as an aircraft which requested the Air Traffic Control for emergency landing due to engine failure. The Air Traffic Control Tower declared full emergency.
A scene was created in which the aircraft met with an accident while trying to land. Fire fighting services immediately responded at the site and controlled the fire. Officials from fire brigade, hospitals, doctors and paramedical staff, Indian Air Force and local administration participated in the exercise to assist the Airports Authority of India.
In addition to fire fighting and rescue work, other aspects regarding medical facilities and reunion of passengers with friends and relatives were also looked after.
