Immigration fficers held in fake passport racket

Mumbai: In a shocking case, the Sahar Police have arrested two immigration officers posted at the Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport who were allegedly instrumental in ignoring the fake/forged passport holders without verifying their details.

According to police, on Saturday, the arrested accused were handed over to them by senior immigration officers only after they discovered that the duo would allegedly help the bogus passports holders pass along in the immigration process. The accused would allegedly replace the pictures from the original passports and would let the particular persons go without checking their documents properly.

Police said the immigration authority would also be interrogating the accused to ascertain their modus operandi and check if any other immigration staff is involved in the racket.

'The anti-robbery dacoity cell of Mumbai crime branch had busted an international child trafficking racket wherein it was revealed that the children were sent to European countries with fake identities and passports. Senior immigration officers then carried out an inquiry into how the traffickers managed to send the children with fake passports through immigration. Since then, the officer kept a close watch on all the officers posted at immigration in the airport.
