Will woo more airline operators to Kerala: Industries minister

Thrissur: The LDF government's priority is to persuade other airlines to operate more services to Kerala rather than pursuing Air Kerala project, said industries minister A C Moideen.
Speaking to reporters here the minister said the Air Kerala project was announced without much preparation by the earlier government.
The present government has not altogether dropped the project but now the emphasis was on requesting airlines to operate more services to the state at reasonable rates, the minister said.
Several airlines have expressed interest to operate more services from Kozhikode, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram airports as well as from the upcoming airport at Kannur which will be commissioned in November, he said.
He said the government was also planning to persuade the airlines to operate connecting services between the existing airports using smaller, low-cost aircraft. Airstrips would be developed at Idukki, Wayanad and Sabarimala to operate smaller aircraft, he added.
