New Delhi: The total evaluated price of the paintings from a collection featuring renowned artists like MF Husain and Jatin Das, which went missing from the Air India headquarters in Mumbai, has been estimated to be over Rs 750 crore.
The case of the missing paintings had come to light after Jatin Das was contacted for a painting that he had made for Air India, for verification prior to sale. Das had painted it way back in 1991 and till a few years ago, it was hanging at the Air India lounge in the International Airport.
The whole matter has now brought into focus the precious works of art Air India has been commissioning and collecting right since JRD Tata's time.
When contacted by India Today, Air India CMD Ashwini Lohani and his team refused to say anything, but sources said the paintings could have gone off the radar and entered the black market for famous works when the airport terminus building was shifted.
