Process of land acquisition for Pantnagar airport begins

Chandigarh: The process of land acquisition for the expansion of the Pantnagar airport has been started.

As part of this, the officials of the Airports Authority of India have been directing necessary surveys of the area. Amidst this development,

the local residents, anxious about their future gheraoed the local MLA and raised their issues and demands with him.

It should be mentioned here that the Haldi area is to be among the most affected by the planned expansion of the airport.

As the time advances, the local residents are getting more anxious to get a clear picture of the situation.

Locals point out that for the expansion work of the airport, the Utarakhand Seeds and Terai Development Corporation colony, farm colony, shopping entre, temples and two schools among other constructions will have to be demolished. Concerned about these issues, the locals gheraoed the local MLA Rajesh Shukla.

The Bharatiya Janata Party local media in charge Pawan Dubey informed that the locals talked to the local MLA for about three hours, expressing their concerns and stating their demands.

During the meet with the MLA, the locals demanded that before the colony compound in Haldi is demolished, the residents should be provided adequate housing facility as they have at present. The residents should be rehabilitated and to relocate the shopping centre a new building should be constructed and shops should be allocated as the
shopkeepers have no other means of livelihood other than their shops.
