Three passengers arrested for customs duty evasion at Hyderabad Airport

Hyderabad: Three Air passengers, including one Malaysian passport holder, were arrested on the charges of customs duty-evasion amounting to about Rs 91 lakh at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport near here.
A release here today said , the three passengers including two Indian passport holders who arrived here from Kuala Lampur by a flight in the early hours on July 9 were intercepted while they were passing through the Green channel along with checked in baggage and hang baggage.

During the checking, it was found that they were in possession of 27,000 numbers of food supplements packed in small pouches with brand name " Stemcell Superlife STC 30" valued at Rs 91.30 lakh.

The pax carried commercial quantity of the goods as part of baggage without declaring to the customs with an intention to evade payment of customs duty in violation of the provisions of the customs Act, 1962 , Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and Foreign Trade Policy, the release said. Earlier, the pax travelled through different airports across the country and the trio tried to smuggle out contraband goods by choosing midnight flight and it appears that there is big rocket behind this operation.
