HC directs for relocation of brick kilns from Srinagar Airport vicinity

Srinagar: The High Court has directed the government to take appropriate steps for relocating the brick-kilns located in the vicinity of Srinagar International Airport.
A division bench of the Chief Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed and Justice Ali Muhammad Magrey directed divisional commissioner Kashmir and deputy commissioner Budgam to take appropriate steps for re-location of these brick kilns.
The court issued the direction after it was informed that presence of smoke from the brick kilns located ahead of runway 31 also adds to the reduced visibility from October to March at Srinagar Airport.
Meanwhile, the Air Force and Airports Authority of India informed the court that 300 meters of land which is available within the boundary before runway 31 could be utilized for setting up a Simple Approach Lighting System (SALS).
“If this is done, minimum visibility would be reduced from 1300 meters to 1000 meters,” the court observed and ordered the suggestion be implemented immediately.
