Puducherry set to reappear on air map

Puducherry: Air services from Puducherry, which was suspended two years ago, is set to resume on August 16. SpiceJet would launch flight services from Wednesday, connecting Puducherry with Hyderabad and Vijayawada, said chief minister V Narayanasamy.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Narayanasamy said air services would also be launched connecting Puducherry with Bengaluru, Tirupathi, Kochi and Coimbatore.
Narayanasamy said Air Odisha had expressed interest in operating smaller aircraft connecting Puducherry with Chennai, Bengaluru and Salem. He said the government would soon hold discussions with Air Odisha to decide on the date of launch of air services. He expressed optimism that resumption of air services would boost the inflow of tourists into Puducherry, besides paving way for economic development of the territory.
Preparatory work to resume movement of cargo at Puducherry port had been progressing at a rapid pace despite attempts from "certain forums" to stall the project, he said. He felt that resumption of cargo movement would result in economic development of the territory and generation of more employment opportunities. It would also boost the hospitality industry, he said.
