Srinagar Airport expansion hits roadblock

Srinarag: Much-hyped upgradation of Srinagar International Airport has hit roadblock as the Airport Authority of India (AAI) has failed to acquire land and finalize tenders for the expansion work of the aerodrome.
Sources informed that the upgradation work of airport was to take place from April, however the failure of authorities to finalise the tenders has resulted in delay in expansion process of the airport which is facing space crunch.
Officials privy to the development stated that the planning department of AAI has forwarded a proposal for seeking the land under its control at Humhama in Budgam district for expansion of airport.
“However, there has been no forward movement in this regard. This has put the expansion program on backburner,” they said.
Director Srinagar AAI Sharad Kumar said that “we had floated tenders earlier, however due to technical reasons it could be materialize. We will now again flout tenders for expansion work,” he added.
