Few takers for business class seats in flights from CIAL

Kochi: Earlier this year when Air India launched their Dreamliner service connecting the Kochi - Dubai sector, commercial director of Air India Pankaj Srivastava said on the night before the first flight to Dubai that the economic class of the flight had been sold out but there were only two passengers flying the business class, he and his colleague.
This trend continues to persist in Kochi and has not seen any significant changes even after the launch of the new international terminal, Kochi Metro or the Infopark.
IATA Agents Association of India, National President, Biji Eapen said that less than 4% of all passengers flying out of Kochi account for business class and first class passengers.
The lack of business class passengers flying from the air port has also impacted the connectivity of the international airport. Airport officials said one of the reasons why airlines did not operate direct flights in the Kochi-Europe sector is the poor demand for business class tickets, even though around1,000 passengers fly from Kochi to Europe every day using connection flights as identified by Cial in a study conducted a few years ago.
