Flyers to get Onam treat at international terminal

Thiruvananthapuram: A surprise gift awaits over 2,000 flyers travelling from Thiruvananthapuram international airport and another 2,000 landing here from the various ports in West Asia during Thiruonam.

King Mahabali and women dressed in traditional dress will be at the arrival and departure enclosures of the international terminal from 12 midnight on Sunday to 10.30 a.m. on September 4, when most of the international flights arrive, to greet the flyers coming home for Onam.

Those landing and departing during the period from the premier airport could pick up the Onam greeting card placed in the counter before proceeding to the emigration formalities. The gift mentioned in the card will be delivered on the spot by the airline personnel to the flyers.

Gifts ranging from chocolates, payasam, Kerala saree, mundu to gold coin await the 4,000 flyers. The novel initiative has been launched by the Airline Operators Committee (AOC) and the Airports Authority of India (AAI). “We have ensured that all the flyers departing from here or landing here get a gift,” says AOC chairman Vijay Bhushan.

The national carrier Air India and the foreign carriers were, over the years, offering Onam menu for the flyers to and from Kerala on Thiruonam. The surprise gift by the AAI and AOC at the airport terminal that has 16 operating airlines and seven allied agencies is a first.
