Shanties close to airport removed yet again

Vasco: After taking serious cognizance of the report appearing on Herald (published on August 30) on illegal shanties, located right under flight path(funnel zone), which pose high risk of bird hits and other security threats to aircraft at Dabolim Airport, the taluka administration have finally removed the shanties.
According to information, after the Herald report, the Deputy Collector Mormugao Mahadev Arondekar swung into action and issued directions to Mormugao Mamlatdar Satish Prabhu and Block Development Officer Mormugao to immediately act and remove the illegal shanties.
Following the memorandum issued by Deputy Collector, Prabhu directed the Chicalim talathi to inspect the site and inform on the status.  Later, a team of officials visited the site and warned migrants to remove the shanties on their own without any delay. On September 15, the talathi submitted his report to the higher-up authorities that the shanties were removed from the area.
Speaking to this correspondent, Arondekar said “as soon as the issue was brought to my notice by Herald, I issued directions to the Mamlatdar and BDO to act.”  He acknowledged that the shanties were removed and a vigil would be kept to see that it does not appear again. It may be recalled that on February 23, 2017, Herald first highlighted about the illegal shanties located right under flight path, following which the South District administration removed illegal shanties within 24 hours.
