Tender floated for viaduct on airport-New Garia link

Kolkata: A tender was floated for the construction of the incomplete viaduct for a 1.4km stretch of the 32km New Garia-airport project, even though demolition of 10 buildings which came up along the alignment at Mahishbathan could not be initiated. The Metro authorities will request the state to initiate the demolition order.
RVNL hasn't provided an estimated cost or deadline to complete the work. The last date for submitting tender documents for bidding has been fixed on October 12 (11am), after which the bids will be opened and evaluated for eligibility.
The Metro authorities have planned to implode the illegal structures. This is the first time in Kolkata that buildings will be pulled down by implosion. Recently, an 11-storey building was demolished in less than 10 seconds in Chennai's Moulivakkam using the implosive technique.
A decision to demolish the structures was taken in October 2016, following which the first round of demolitions started in February 2017. Negotiations are under way to get rid of the rest of the structures and the notice inviting tenders was an indication of an impending breakthrough. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee has already instructed her officers to clear the stumbling blocks along all Metro corridors
