AAI team to probe runway light damage by AI aircraft

Surat: A technical team from Airports Authority of India's (AAI) Mumbai headquarters will be visiting Surat airport to inspect the runway after Air India flight from New Delhi damaged three lights while taking the 360 degree turn after landing on Wednesday morning.
Official sources said the Air India 493 aircraft landed at Surat airport from New Delhi at about 6.50 am on Wednesday morning. Though the landing was perfect, the pilot damaged three runway lights during the 360 degree turn. The aircraft had around 145 passengers who had boarded the flight from New Delhi.
This type of incident, according to airport authorities, has occurred for the first time when the pilot damaged the runway lights while turning the aircraft towards the apron. The incident was reported to the operations and technical departments of the AAI for investigation.
Airport director Dilip Sajnani told TOI, "This is a technical issue altogether. The aircraft damaged the runway light during the 360 degree turn. How this happened is a matter of investigation by the technical team. The team members will be coming to the airport to investigate the issue."
