After poor response, 3 firms keen on setting up two duty-free outlets at airport

Chandigarh: After tenders floated by Chandigarh International Airport Limited(CHIAL) to set up two duty-free outlets at the Chandigarh International Airport received poor response, the officials have now stated that three firms have shown their interest.
“Three parties have come forward. The process is on and we expect that it would take another 15 days,”Chandigarh International Airport Chief Executive Officer Sunil Dutt said on Saturday. He, however, didn’t provide any further details about the three firms which have applied for the tenders.
The CHIAL had recently called fresh tenders to set up two duty-free outlets. Earlier, the airport authorities failed to get a good response from global firms even after extending the date of submission of tender twice.
Officials said that currently scrutiny is on about the three interested parties and a final decision would be taken after going through the set process. The airport authority has decided to set up one duty-free outlet each in the departure and the arrival area of the airport. A firm which will get the tender can sell several products at the airport, including liquor and beauty products.
CHIAL authorities have also announced that additional snack bars alongwith one restaurant will be opened at the Chandigarh International Airport this month. The new terminal located at Mohali was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September 2015.
