Air fares, freight rate from Nagpur airport to rise by 30%

Nagpur: Post Diwali, air fare and non-air fare charges, including freight, from city's Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport will increase by 30%. Also, Rs150 user development fee for domestic travel, and Rs300 for international travel will be introduced for the first time in the city.
The increase in air fare and non-air charges comes after a gap of 10 years. Airport Authority of India (AAI), former operator of the airport, had hiked the charges last in 2007. Mihan India Limited (MIL), current operator of the airport, had submitted city airport's first multi-year tariff (MYT) for a period of five years with Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India (AERA) on November 21, 2016.
After technical validation, AERA had released consultation paper on September 1 this year, and invited suggestions and objections on it till September 29. Now, AERA is about to pronounce the order soon.
In its consultation paper, AERA has proposed to hike aeronautical charges, including landing, parking and housing charges of aircraft, by 30%. Therefore, the air fare is likely to increase by 30%.
Actually, air fare will increase by over 30% if one adds UDF. The airline companies will recover UDF from passengers in their tickets and deposit it with MIL.
