New Delhi: With aircraft engine maker Pratt & Whitney providing over 20 spare engines for the A320neo aircraft operated by GoAir and IndiGo, industry sources have told The Indian Express that all the planes that were grounded due to performance issues with these engines have been certified to fly. Considering the operational issues faced by the airlines on account of grounded aircraft, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had recently asked Pratt & Whitney to expedite the supply of engines to India.
“As on date, there are no AOGs (aircraft on ground) left in India due to P&W engines. The last one was cleared late on Thursday. The steady supply of engine spare continues to come into the country,” the source said, adding that the representatives of the two airlines, along with the engine maker had recently met the DGCA to apprise the regulator of the situation.
According to Airbus data as on September 30, IndiGo — the country’s largest operator — has 24 operational A320neos with 405 on order, whereas GoAir has six operational A320neos with 144 on order. On certain days, according to information provided by IndiGo earlier, the airline had grounded as many as eight aircraft, thus witnessing an impact on its flight operations.
