Chandigarh Airport to get first flea market

Chandigarh: In a first in the country, the international airport here will soon have a flea market, which will allow unique and affordable shopping.

“The flea market is being set up for passengers’ convenience and will have multi brands,” said Sunil Dutt, CEO of Chandigarh Intentional Airport.

The market will run for three months initially. City-based firm VEE Three Marketing Private Limited has been selected for setting up the market and blueprints of these temporary shops have been cleared.

“There’ll be 10 such shops in the security hold area of the departure terminal. The shops will sell clothes, cosmetics, artificial jewellery, sunglasses, etc, and will operate from the time airport opens till it closes down,’’ said an official. Also in the pipeline are 16 retail shops in the departure area.

Another added feature will be a musician, band or a group of dancers performing each day. In another initiative, a part of the old terminal building has been converted into a civil aviation skill training centre.
