Flight services from Nashik will take another month

Nashik: The flights connecting Nashik with Mumbai and Pune under the Centre's Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) will take at least one more month to take off.
Even the Nashik Inc has been demanding air connectivity that would help in further industrialising the district. Nashik is waiting for the commencement of air service for the past eight years. The Kingfisher Airlines had shut the Nashik-Mumbai air service after a year-long operation in November 2009 following poor response. Since then, air service is yet to start from Ozar airport.
Member (operations) of Airports Authority of India (AAI) G K Chaukiyal told TOI over the phone from Delhi that Deccan Charters Pvt Ltd is still in process of completing some mandatory formalities from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
"It will take the airline at least one to one-and-half months more to complete these essential formalities before the flights from Nashik can take off," he added.
The Bangalore-headquartered Deccan Charters Pvt Ltd had won the bid to operate flights connecting the three important cities of Maharashtra in March this year. And the airline operator was supposed to start operations from September.
Ever since the Shirdi Airport in the neighbouring district of Ahmednagar became operational from October 1 there has been apprehensions among a section of the Nashikites that flights from Ozar Airport in Nashik could remain a non-starter since Nashik and Shirdi are just 80-km away. And it would not be prudent for any airlines to start operations from Nashik.
