Jaipur airport to have a taxiway

Jaipur: A taxiway has been planned for the Jaipur airport to deal with its air traffic congestion. Until now the airport has had only one runway which takes care of takeoff and landing operations of airlines. Until now the norm has been that whenever there is an aircraft that gets ready for a takeoff on the runway, its landing has to be stopped. An aircraft takes approximately 8-10 minutes for a takeoff meaning the one ready for landing has to wait in the air during this time.

Time and effort both are wasted in this process hence as adopted by other major airports, authorities at Jaipur has also understood the importance of having a taxiway. This will ensure that the takeoff and landing operations can be carried out at the same time. The government has planned to use the available land in the Jagatpura area. The state government has already directed the airport authorities to get the technical requirements in place.
Ever since the Terminal 2 has been operational, the old Terminal at Sanganer hasn’t seen any activity. The situation though is expected to change now. Considering the air traffic witnessed at the airport, the Aviation ministry has decided to restart operations at this terminal. The terminal will have to undergo some work before restarting operations. Once this happens, the air traffic load will be considerably reduced at the airport. The airport witnesses more than 35 lakh travelers every year.
