15m-high parking lotto come up at airport

Pune: A 15.35 metre parking lot, almost as tall as five-storeyed building, will come up in the vicinity of the Pune airport. The facility will cater to the hundreds of vehicles coming to the airport throughout the day.
Sources said the Indian Air Force has approved the height of the building and the structure would come up in the parking lot number one that is near the entry gate to the airport.
The project was okayed based on the conceptual plan for the development of the facility to cater to around 11,000 passengers on a daily basis.
"The parking lot will serve several purposes. Once the building is constructed, it will take far less space compared to now and the number of vehicles that can be parked will increase. However, many matters about the project, which come under the Pune airport development and expansion plan are yet to be decided. A decision will be taken on whether the existing parking will be discontinued once the new structure is ready. Egis India, originally a French company, has been appointed as consultant for the project. The firm is working towards the finalization of the conceptual plan for the development of the airport. There are many aspects about the project which are under review at present," a senior airport official said.
