Air ambulance aid for ill

Guwahati: Flaps Aviation Private Limited has started a membership programme to enable patients to avail air ambulance service at subsidised rates.

To make the membership scheme a success, the company is initiating partnership tie-ups with state governments, corporate organisations, NGOs and other stakeholders. Talks are also on to engage medical insurance companies to help make this service cashless with low premium.

Delhi-based Flaps Aviation launched a pan-India air ambulance service from Guwahati on Thursday in the presence of industries minister Chandra Mohan Patowary at NEDFi house here.

Patowary told the gathering, "Earlier people had to call the air ambulance from Calcutta or Delhi, which entailed extra expenditure and loss of time. Now Flaps Aviation will keep an air ambulance here. The service will help save lives."
Medical evacuation by air is a popular concept in the US and Europe. Flaps Aviation is trying to popularise it in India by bringing down the cost. The service has been initiated to enable bed-to-bed transfer of critically ill patients.
