Confusion at IGIA after T2 reopens

Irked GoAir passengers have been complaining since Sunday that the airport operators did not make an effort to direct them to the newly renovated Terminal 2 (T2) of the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA). The Airlines shifted its operations to T2 on Sunday, while other domestic flights are still operating from other terminals.

Passengers said chaos ensued at the airport after the domestic operations were split between two terminals. While GoAir is operating from T2, SpiceJet and IndiGo will continue to operate from 1D. The two airlines are still at loggerheads about which airlines will next move their operations completely to T2, in order to allow the airport operator to execute Terminal 1D’s expansion.

Many GoAir passengers have been turning up at 1D and then travelling back to T2, more than 2 km away.

DNA had reported in March this year that T2, renovated at a cost of over Rs 100 crore, missed its fourth tentative deadline to be operational in February, 2017. The terminal was to be opened on January 1, 2017, but the deadline kept extending. The terminal missed yet another deadline on February 15, after which the Ministry of Civil Aviation had said that it will find a solution within a week. Now, SpiceJet and IndiGo are also expected to shift their operations to T2 soon. Earlier, operator Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) had insisted that SpiceJet, IndiGo, and GoAir should shift one-third of their existing flights from 1D to T2, but the suggestion was opposed by the airlines, which were not keen to operate from two terminals simultaneously.
