Delhi airfare touches the roof

Mohali: The airfare to Delhi has gone up by over 10 times as a majority of the flights have been cancelled.
According to Chandigarh-based travel agents, the airfare of most of the flights from Chandigarh to Delhi for tomorrow has touched the roof.
Talking to Chandigarh Tribune, Pankaj Sharma, owner of Chandigarh Swastik Travel Service, said the ticket of Air India for tomorrow morning's flight was available for Rs 15,000. “On a normal day, the airfare ranges between Rs 2,000 and Rs 3,500. The airfare of some other private flights for tomorrow afternoon has crossed Rs 30,000,” said Pankaj Sharma.
The main reason behind the increase in the fare is stated to be the cancellation of flights due to the ongoing repair work on a runway at the Delhi airport and dense fog in the area.
Vikas Bhasin, who runs his travel office from Sector 17, Chandigarh, said some tickets at normal rates were available in early morning flights. “However, in the afternoon flights, the ticket rates have touched the roof,” said Bhasin.
