Job fraud: Rajasthan native held

Thiruvananthapuram: The City shadow police on Tuesday apprehended Pramod Kumar Ajar, 25, of Bari in Rajasthan, on charges of defrauding several candidates of large sums of money by offering them jobs in the national carrier Air India. The Thampanoor police have recorded his arrest.

The accused advertised in an online classifieds platform offering jobs as ground staff in Air India Limited. Job aspirants, who fell for the alleged ploy, contacted him in the number provided in the advertisement, following which they were directed to send him their biodata.
“Some days later, the candidates would be sent messages that they had been shortlisted for the job, along with information regarding the nature of the job, work hours, and the salary. After issuing them ‘offer letters,’ the accused would inform them that they would be provided uniforms to be worn during the training period and that they would have to transfer the required amount to a particular bank account, which he claimed was that of the human resources wing of the company,” an official said.

The fraud came to light after several aspirants, who had sent the money, sensed that something was amiss as they received no further messages.

The accused was arrested following a probe launched on the basis of complaints.
