Only CNG Taxis And Buses Will Ply at Delhi International Airport: NGT

New Delhi: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Friday ordered that only CNG buses and cabs will be allowed to ply at the Delhi International Airport. The green court said  that the taxi service rendering companies like DIAL will have to upgrade its vehicles to run on Compressed Natural Gas in next six months. The latest order comes in the wake of a slew of measures  being taken to combat rising levels of pollution in the national capital region.
Delhi witnessed a gas chamber-like conditions earlier this month when the air pollution index deteriorated rapidly. The NGT also ordered the government of Haryana and Punjab to come out with workable solutions for stop stubble-burning. The Delhi government, on its part, told the court that it may consider implementing the odd-even vehicle rationing scheme again.
The tribunal asked states to recommend a mechanism for transportation of agriculture residue, excluding the residue left in the field for manure, and the incentives which could be provided to the farmers.
“Every State would submit a list before the Secretary of Agriculture of the thermal power plants or biomass-based energy plants which are being run or are proposed to be constructed in the respective states,” the bench said.
