Retired troops for airport duty

New Delhi: The Centre has decided to recruit over 500 retired paramilitary personnel to ease the rush at immigration counters at Delhi airport following reports of delays.

Last week, the Union home ministry had set up 10 new counters at the airport after flyers complained about long queues for getting immigration clearance.

"The 500 retired paramilitary personnel will be primarily deployed at Delhi airport but their services can be utilised at other international airports in the country depending on the situation," a ministry official said.

Ministry sources said it would be the first time that paramilitary personnel, who retired as sub-inspectors, would be hired because such post-retirement offers were earlier limited to defence personnel.
Candidates need to have good knowledge of English and basic computer operations to be recruited. They will be hired on three-year contracts and paid Rs 36,000 a month.
