Revenue officials survey lands for Salem Airport expansion

Salem: Revenue officials have commenced collecting the needed details about the lands to be procured for the Salem Airport expansion project.

Both the Centre and the state government are involved in the work of expanding the Salem airport which at present stand on about 160 acres in Kaamalapuram village on the outskirts of the city. The airport has been lying defunct for the last few years.

The Union Civil Aviation Ministry has taken efforts for reviving the airport and has already accorded permission for the introduction of flight service from Salem airport under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS). The flight services in the Salem – Chennai route are expected to be introduce by next month.

A team of revenue officials commenced the work of surveying and measuring the government poramboke lands in the villages of Thumbipadi, Sikkanampatti, Pottiyapuram, Kaamalapuram.

They also collected the details of the households, trees and private buildings under the survey numbers on patta lands.
