AAI plans 7-month survey to enhance 31 airports’ capacity

Pune: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) will conduct a seven-month survey of 31 airports in the country, aimed at increasing their capacity.
The authority has floated tenders in this regard, as per sources. Many airports in the country are running at capacity, while facilities like Pune are operating way beyond their capacity.

The study will help them identify the areas which need improvement. The AAI will then take the necessary steps.

"At present, airports like those in Pune, Lucknow and Jaipur are operating beyond their capacity in terms of the facility's design," an AAI official said.

"Then there are airports like Delhi and Mumbai, which have almost reached their maximum capacity. The study will help us in identifying areas in need of improvement and those that need a complete overhaul, etc. Once the areas are identified, essential steps will be initiated," the official added.
