Additional boarding gate by February: Airports Authority of India

Patna: An additional boarding gate at Jayaprakash Narayan International (JPNI) Airport will be operational from February while the work has been awarded for the expansion of security hold area (SHA) on the first floor of the terminal building, an Airports Authority of India (AAI) press release said on Tuesday.
The press release stated that the AAI is also constructing a state-of-the-art terminal building with passenger handling capacity of 45 lakh per annum at the cost of Rs800 crore to meet the ever increasing passenger traffic at the Patna airport. The construction work for the new terminal building will start in April 2018. The new terminal building will take care of 2,250 passengers during peak hours.
In addition to the extended terminal building, a new terminal building at Bihta airbase with a passenger handling capacity of 50 lakh is also planned at the cost of Rs800 crore. The construction work will commence in September 2018 subject to availability of land by this month end. AAI has also decided to start 24-hour operations at Patna airport in coming summer schedule (March 25, 2018). This will allow night operations from 10pm to 6am, thereby reducing the daytime air traffic.
