Guwahati: The bodies of two students from Arunachal Pradesh who died in a road accident at Dehradun on Sunday night will be flown in to Guwahati by IndiGo airlines free of cost on Tuesday morning.
Two private airlines - IndiGo and Air Vistara - had agreed to carry the bodies following a distress call from Helping Hands, an NGO that helps people from the Northeast living in different parts of the country.
Chimar Basar, 22, and Gyati Sumpi, 21, who studied in an agriculture science college at Dehradun, were mowed down by a truck on Sunday night. Both were riding a scooter when the truck hit them. Chimar hailed from Papum Pare district while Sumpi was from Lower Subansiri district in Arunachal Pradesh.
"Both the airlines had agreed to carry the bodies as soon as we approached them. But we decided to take the help of IndiGo since it has a flight at 5am from Dehradun. The bodies will be flown in to Guwahati as their families cannot afford airfare. The bodies will be sent to their homes by car," NGO president Robin Hibu told The Telegraph on Monday.
