Mohali: The Mohali police have seized diamond-studded gold jewellery worth Rs 4.71 crore from a Mumbai resident at Chandigarh International Airport, Mohali. The suspect has been identified as Munish Bandi, who landed here in a Hyderabad-Chandigarh flight. The jewellery, kept in three boxes, was hidden in a bag. Officers failed to detect the jewellery at the Delhi and Hyderabad airports.
Inspector HS Bal, station house officer of the Airport police station, said Bandi could not produce the documents required with the jewellery items. “He told us that he was intending to hold an exhibition in Chandigarh. He could not produce the required documents, following which we also called up the officials of the Excise and Taxation Department,” said Bal, adding that the flight also landed in Delhi on the way to Chandigarh.
