Gold bars, foreign currencies seized from two passengers at Chennai airport

Chennai: Customs officials seized gold and foreign currency notes from two passengers at Chennai International Airport in the last two days.
On Monday morning, a passenger named Yedala Gangayya, 31, an Indian passport holder, arrived from Riyadh via Colombo in a Sri Lankan Airlines flight. She was intercepted at the exit of the arrival hall on suspicion that she might be carrying gold/contraband.
During search, two gold bars with markings "rmmr SUISSE 10 TOLAS FINE GOLD 999.9," totally weighing 233 grams and valued at Rs 6.7 lakh, were recovered. The gold bars were concealed in her pants pockets.
On Sunday, 20,000 Saudi riyals in the denomination of 500, equivalent to Rs 3.3 lakh, were recovered from Mohamed Sameen Mullah, 23, an India passport holder, who was bound for Dubai via Colombo in a Sri Lankan Airlines flight. Foreign currencies wrapped in black adhesive tape was found concealed in his rectum.
