Hubballi-Mumbai flight services to be inaugurated on Dec. 12

Hubballi: The new terminal of Hubballi Airport is ready for operation and the inauguration will coincide with the launch of Air India flight services from Hubballi to Mumbai on December 12. At present, Hubballi has flight services only to Bengaluru.

Addressing a joint press conference with Leader of Opposition in Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar, Member of Parliament from Dharwad Pralhad Joshi said that the runway, which had been extended from 1,674 m to 2,600 m, could handle aircraft of the Airbus A320 series and three such aircraft could be parked at the apron.

Mr. Joshi said after safety inspection from the competent authorities, now the new terminal would handle flight services to Mumbai in addition to the existing flight services to Bengaluru. The upgradation of the Hubballi Airport into an all-weather airport started with the acquisition of 657 acres of land in 2006 when Mr. Jagadish Shettar as Revenue Minister took steps to provide land to Airport Authority of India

Mr. Pralhad Joshi said that he and Mr. Shettar took up the issue with Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha and the Minister intervened to get a slot at Mumbai Airport for starting flight services from Bengaluru to Mumbai, via Hubballi.
