‘Terror suspect did recce of city airport’

Patna: Suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative Abu Naeem Sheikh alias Sohail Khan, who was arrested from Varanasi by National Investigation Agency (NIA) on November 29 this year, had conducted recce of several important places, such as Gorakhnath temple, Gorakhpur cantonment area, Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport in Patna and Danapur cantonment area, NIA sources said.
Sheikh had made Gopalganj his base and was operating with the help of his associate Dhannu Raja alias Bedar Bakht, who was also arrested from Gopalganj in Bihar on December 3. The duo were plotting terror attacks at vital installations across the country.. The two were allegedly involved in radicalising people of similar mindset to plot terror attacks across the country. Sheikh had travelled to several places in the country from Goplaganj to collect information related to defence, strategic installations and famous public places. He was allegedly providing the key information to his LeT handlers.
Sources said Sheikh took admission in an English coaching institute on Yadavpur Road in Gopalganj to learn the language. Within five months of his admission, Sheikh became a partner in the institute. "He had a good command over English language and had opened his own institute, Smart Learner, in Gopalganj last year," sources said. He lived in Gopalganj from December 2014 to March 2017.
