Indian Navy's MiG-29K Skids Off Runway, Catches Fire at Goa Airport

New Delhi, Jan 3: A MiG-29K fighter jet of the Indian Navy overshot the runway at Goa airport and caught fire on Wednesday. According to reports, a trainee-pilot, who was at the command of the fighter jet, ejected on time.

Emergency teams were pressed into service immediately after the pilot reported a fire on the aircraft.

The Navy spokesperson said the aircraft caught fire after it veered off the runway. The accident halted flight operations for almost two hours at Dabolim — the only airport in Goa. Arrival and departure of civilian flights at the Goa airport were delayed due to the incident, Goa airport director B C H Negi said.
