B'luru flyers to avail heli taxis fro airport to electronic city

It's finally happening. In a week's time, sale of air tickets for a chopper ride between Electronics City and Kempegowda International Airport will go live.

Thumby Aviation Private Ltd — which will operate the shuttle services — has developed a mobile app for users to book tickets, which are expected to cost anywhere between Rs 2,500 and Rs 3,000.

"We have already developed an app for the booking of tickets. The app will be formally released next week for customers to book the tickets," Group Captain KNG Nair, chairman and managing director of Thumby Aviation told Mirror.

Nair added that the Heli Taxi service will significantly bring down the airport commute time for those living in east and south Bengaluru. The service is expected to start by the end of this month.

"All the necessary infrastructure, which includes building of helipads, is in place and we are ready to launch the services. The date of the launch will be announced shortly and it will most probably be in the last week of February," Nair added.

Heli Taxi service, which is the first of its kind in the country to connect various locations in the city and KIA in Devanahalli, was announced in August by minister of state for civil aviation Jayant Sinha.

Initially, the helicopter shuttle service will have utilise helipads in Electronics City and the international airport. While the helipad at KIA was ready sometime back, the one at Electronics City has only now been readied for operations.
