Experts push for smaller airports

Guwahati: Air Deccan chief executive officer Capt. (retd) G.R. Gopinath on Sunday said the need of the hour is to build smaller and cleaner airports across the country instead of spending money on establishing huge ones.

Capt. Gopinath said this during a panel discussion on civil aviation at the Advantage Assam summit here.

The government's tendency is to build large airports but it would be better to have smaller and cleaner airports across the country," he said, adding that the government should invest money in ensuring night landing and providing navigational aids to the airports in the region.

Every district in the country need to have airports so that smaller places could have air connectivity, he added.

"Services at the smaller airports need to be improved and they should function all the time," Capt. Gopinath said.
