Five flights diverted due to low visibility

Vasco: A sudden drop in visibility on Friday morning forced Goa airport authorities to divert two charters and three domestic flights to other airports.
According to the information by officials of Airport Authority of India (AAI), the visibility was extremely low from 6 am onwards, when the morning flights were to arrive. “There was sudden drop in visibility as thick fog enveloped Dabolim airport. After visibility dropped less than 100 meters, two international flights including a charter flight from Russia was diverted to Bangalore while another routine flight from Manchester to Goa was asked to land at Mumbai airport. Similarly, three other domestic routine flights including an Indigo flight from Chennai to Goa was diverted to Bangalore, Go Air flight from Mumbai was asked to return to Mumbai and Spice Jet flight from Chennai to Surat via Goa was diverted to Bangalore,” AAI Director B C H Negi said.
The flights began landing from 8.30 am onwards when visibility improved to 1500 meters.
