Development of international airport at Hisar on fast track

Delhi: The conversion of Hisar airport into an international airport is progressing faster to meet the Centre's UDAN scheme to improve regional connectivity in the country.

Ministry of civil aviation has earmarked 3,200 acres of government-owned land for the project, apart from the existing 196 acre Hisar airport.

Haryana government had proposed this project in December 2014 to accord international status and allocated Rs 100 crore.

According to a senior official, the airport authority of India has completed feasibility report of the project and submitted it to the civil aviation ministry. The official is hopeful that the construction will start soon.

However, he has not given any time frame to complete the project. After completion, Hisar airport will be the largest in the country, based on an integrated aviation hub.

The official pointed out that the runway will be expanded from existing 4,000 meters to 7000 meters in the first phase with the scope to expand further according to demand.
