Aviation secy holds review meet on Navi Mumbai airport

Mumbai: Civil aviation secretary R N Choubey today held a review meeting on the Navi Mumbai airport with Maharashtra chief secretary Sumit Malik along with senior ministry officials as well as officials from the AAI, the DGCA and the state government.

During the meeting, the civil aviation ministry and and concessionaire Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIAL) signed an initial pact to avail reserved services such as air traffic management, customs control, immigration, security, meteorological services, among others, for the new airport, an official release said.

GVK Power and Infrastructure (GVKPIL), a part of the GVK group, had in January this year signed a concession agreement with Cidco to create a special purpose vehicle, NMIAL, for developing the Navi Mumbai airport.

GVK through its subsidiary, Mumbai International Airport (MIAL), holds 74 per cent stake in NMIAL, while Cidco, the town planning authority, holds the balance 26 per cent.

The initial concession period is 30 years from the appointed date which is extendable for a further 10 years.
