Bangalore airport is opening its runway to runners

If you’re an #avgeek who’s always wondered what it’s like to hang out on an airport runway, Bangalore airport is giving you a chance.

Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru is turning 10 next month, and the celebration is anything but standard operating procedure. On the afternoon of 8 May, the airport’s runway will be closed off for a 10K run, and you can participate.

Organised by BIAL (Bengaluru International Airport Limited), the runway race is the first of its kind for an Indian airport, although such events have taken place at other major airports around the world, including New York’s JFK and London Heathrow.

There are certain qualifiers, of course. Registrations close on 30 April. When you sign up, make sure to submit details of past races that you have run. Do note that only 100 participants will be selected, and you must be 18 years or older to qualify. Also note that the race starts at 12.45pm and ends at 2.15pm.
