Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs Department on Tuesday seized Rs. 12.71 lakh worth gold from a passenger at Madurai Airport.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of AIU sleuths led by Assistant Commissioner A. Venkadesh Babu intercepted N. Ramkumar of Sivaganga district who flew down from Singapore by Air India Express.
When they checked his luggage, they found a home grinder used for cutting, grinding and polishing metals. Upon opening the machine, they found two annulus shaped gold pieces concealed inside it. The 24-carat gold pieces, weighing 406 gm, were seized from him
