Kerala: Rush has Indigo drop recruitment

Kannur: Private airlines Indigo had to abandon recruitment procedures for ground handling staff at Kannur International Airport Limited (KIAL) due to a huge rush of candidates at the venue. After information was circulated through social networking sites, according to a rough estimate , more than 10,000 candidates reached the spot to appear for the recruitment.  A long queue formed in front of the hotel where the interview was fixed and it became more than 3 kilometers long by 8 am.

By 10 am, the situation went out of control as the candidates started clamoring in front of the hotel and many in groups started barging into the hotel demanding speedy procedures, according to hotel staff. The airlines was forced to cancel the procedures due to insufficient security arrangements.    Candidates also complained that the company failed to ensure adequate facilities at the venue where thousands waited for hours in the extreme heat. However, the airline company authorities said that the details of the candidates were collected and after filtering the applicants, the interview would be conducted at a later date.
It is to be recalled that it is for the first time an airlines company has conducted an interview in Kannur. Air-India also will be conducting a walk-in interview for ground handling staff for KIAL in May. It is to be recalled that Indigo Airlines will be conducting services to Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Hubli and Goa from KIAL. Every week there would be seven services to all these cities.
