Malaysians taken ill, miss flight

Calcutta: Around 15 Malaysians, part of a 53-member group on its way back to Kuala Lumpur from Bagdogra, fell ill on board their flight to Calcutta on Sunday evening.

Officials said the group had eaten lunch at a roadside eatery while travelling from Darjeeling to Bagdogra.

Two of the Malaysians - Leong Guat Heng, 68, and his wife Tan Soo Koon, 62 - were so sick that they failed to board their onward flight to Kuala Lumpur early on Monday and had to be admitted to hospital. Officials at Charnock Hospital in New Town said the couple's condition was stable.

One of the Malaysians in the group who stays in Calcutta said the rest had arrived in the city on March 28 to visit Darjeeling.

They had booked AirAsia tickets for their return journey from Bagdogra to Kuala Lumpur, via Calcutta.
