Navi Mumbai airport: CM sets up task force to track progress

Mumbai: Mumbai: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday set up a task force led by chief secretary Sumit Mullick to monitor the progress of work on the Navi Mumbai Airport. This comes after Union civil aviation secretary R.N. Choubey pointed out during a review meeting the need for better coordination between State and Central departments.

The task force will have 23 members, including secretaries of the home, finance, energy, environment, and forest departments. There is a need for coordination on security, water and energy connectivity, and connectivity of the airport with Metro and Mono trains, officials said. The task force has also been asked to look for a solution to disputes between third parties and the government.

On Monday, a meeting was held between Mr. Mullick, and officials from the aviation ministry, the Airports Authority of India, and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. “The task force will coordinate between State and Central departments. It will continue to monitor progress on issues related to connectivity, and obtain permissions,” said an official.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation of the airport on February 18. The work for the ₹16,000 crore project spread across 1,160 hectares has been awarded to the Navi Mumbai International Airport.
