Aircraft stuck on runway halts operations at Mumbai airport

New Delhi: Operations at Mumbai airport came to a halt at about 21:15, as an Air India aircraft made emergency landing at the airport and was stuck on the runway due to hydraulic failure.

This has already impacted operations of over 50 flights at the airport.

“Air india aircraft from Goa made emergency landing and blocked runway. Now being moved from runway due to hydraulic failure once aircraft removed runway inspection will be done and then dep shall be given clearance,” said a source in the know.

While the runway was opened for landing, the take offs were still not happening, due to presence of hydraulic oil on the main runway (09/27). This is set to further impact operations at the airport, which is already crippling with delays and cancellations due to an upgrade in the Instrument Landing System.

An airline official, who did not want to be quoted, said that infrastructure constraints are really becoming a problem every passing day. “It also does not help that airports stay mum, it is left to the airlines to inform the world and face the flak for delays,” said the airline executive.
