MoU signed for fruit export

Agartala: The Tripura government on Friday signed an MoU for exporting the queen variety of pineapple from Tripura to Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

Minister for agriculture Pranajit Singha Roy signed the MoU with Kreamery Craft - a Calcutta-based export-import trade firm - and Spicejet Merchandise, at Prajna Bhavan here. Export-import traders for Bahrain and other West Asian countries were present at the event.

Roy said the exporters have made an advance payment of Rs 1 lakh for the three-month contract.
"We shall export 100 truckloads of kew and queen variety pineapples as of now. However, this is not final. We have got demand from Bahrain and different West Asian countries. Heavy demand has also come from Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Telangana," the minister said.

According to the set standards, pineapples weighing 800gm or more would be exported and the rest would be used for domestic consumption or sent to neighbouring Bangladesh.
